Be Monsoon Ready : Part 1

The season of monsoon really brings out the beauty of nature. I have always thought of monsoon as a delicious dessert after a terrible dinner, bringing relief in our lives after suffering from the summer’s heat. As beautiful as this season might be, it has its share of ugliness. Which comes in the form of a risk to your homes, requiring you to take more care of it. Hence, in today’s blog, I will be sharing some insightful tips on keeping your house clean and hygienic for the rainy season.

1. Check for leakages

Before we even start to think of making changes to our interior for the season, it is crucial to check for any leakages. Use leakproof chemicals to fill any cracks or holes visible in your ceiling or walls. Check all window gaps as rain can sometimes damage them, letting water and insects inside. 2.  Look after your furniture

After checking and fixing leakages in various parts of your house, it’s now time to check up on your furniture. Along with the rain, this season brings a lot of moisture in the air, which can be particularly damaging for your wooden furniture. Hence, ensure your wooden items are adequately polished and wipe them frequently so that dampness does not settle on them. An additional tip is to move your furniture a little away from the walls and rustproof all your door and wardrobe handles.

3. Keeping your toilets clean

The bathroom is the most comfortable place in your house, second to only the bedroom. Your mood can soon reflect the clumsy, chaotic and grimy decor of your bathroom; hence it is essential to have a neat and tidy bathroom. The bathroom flooring usually tends to be wet, and so there are chances of people slipping. Therefore, always remember to wipe the bathroom floor on a regular basis to avoid such incidents. If you find this impractical, I suggest you place a rug or a carpet that can enhance the beauty of your bathroom and keep your legs dry. However, for this particular season, only purchase thin rugs or carpets as they dry faster and neglects the dirty, damp smell. Finally, use scented candles or perfumed oil to keep away any remaining foul smell of dampness.

4. Care for your mattress

When the rain starts to fall, making everything misty outside, the first thing anyone wants to do is to slip under a comforter and curl into your bed and enjoy the view outside. But what if suddenly your bed is not as comfortable as you thought it was? Monsoon brings with it dampness, insects and mildew. Hence, it is important to maintain the hygiene levels by cleaning your mattress thoroughly to retain its level of comfort. A rather odd tip; use baking soda on the mattress to get rid of dampness, moisture and insects. Being a fantastic absorbing agent, it will help reduce moisture and removes any foul smell. Lastly, don’t forget to change your bed sheets regularly.

5. Let there be change

This season calls upon making changes around your house. Change your curtains to ones that are light and silky. These curtains dry very quickly and don’t absorb any dampness or moisture from the air. Returning back home in this season means painting your stylish doormat with mud and dirt. Hence, change this doormat with a plastic one. Keep your house well ventilated as it helps maintain a pleasant atmosphere in the house. Proper ventilation also keeps away the humid and damp atmosphere. If necessary, use a dehumidifier which can help you keep the house moist free.

HAPPY MONSOON ………………
